Live Fire Training Information:
Fire departments must ensure that all personnel attending the RDNO Fire Training Centre have met local fire department/jurisdiction medical and fitness requirements and that the personnel are authorized to attend training on behalf of the department/jurisdiction.
The RDNO Fire Training Centre reserves the right to refuse any personnel from participating in training for physical or medical reasons. Examples: exhaustion, injury, illness.
PPE Requirements:
Fire departments must ensure that all firefighter PPE meets all current WorkSafeBC requirements and that it is in good repair and proper fitting.
High Cotton content undergarments must be worn under PPE. The RDNO FTC recommends that at least 2 complete changes be available during the day. Coveralls, jeans, sweat shirts etc are not recommended to be worn under PPE during live fire training.
The RDNO Fire Training Centre accepts no responsibility for damage of PPE as the result of live fire training activities. Articles such as “accountability tags”, “helmets”, “flashlights”, “decals” or “reflective trim” can be damaged during live fire training. Failure to stay low, recognize high heat conditions, or use proper firefighting techniques can damage equipment and may result in injury.
The RDNO Fire Training Centre has identified that some manufacturers PPE, components and/or equipment may be better suited for the rigors of live fire training than others.
Facial Hair:
No facial hair may come in contact with the sealing surface of the SCBA face piece, regardless of face piece seal effectiveness.
No more than 24 hrs of growth will be allowed under any face piece sealing surface.
The RDNO FTC reserves the right to refuse participation and/or require removal of suspect facial hair. It should be noted that the RDNO FTC considers the sealing surface of a SCBA face piece to be any surface of the face piece that comes in contact with the wearers face.
Mandatory Rehab:
RDNO Fire Training Centre requires a mandatory rest/rehab period midway through each morning and afternoon session for all live fire participants.
All firefighters are required to doff PPE entirely and follow RDNO FTC “Rehab Procedures”
Blood pressure, heart rate and temperature monitoring may be required.
Participants are encouraged to practice proper hydration procedures prior to arriving at the RDNO FTC.
